Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign team has accused former President Donald Trump supporters of leaving his “exhausted” rally in Michigan early.
The Kamala HQ social media account shared a video that appeared to show at least two women leaving the stands behind Trump while the former president was speaking on stage in Detroit on Friday night.
“Crowd members begin to leave in the middle of Trump’s exhausted and confused rally speech,” the official campaign account posted.
Harris and her team have frequently mocked the former president by sharing videos of people appearing to leave one of the former president’s rallies early. During the only live presidential debate between the pair so far on September 10, Harris said people leave Trump’s rallies early “out of exhaustion and boredom.”
It is unclear if the people seen in the Detroit video are leaving the rally, but live streams of the event do not show the women returning to the same area. The Kamala HQ account has previously been accused of sharing misleading videos while attacking Trump.
The Kamala HQ “exhausted” line of attack is a reference to an alleged reason why Trump has been canceling some media appearances in the final few weeks of the election.
Trump, who regularly appears on conservative cable shows and podcasts, has recently pulled out of scheduled appearances on CBS News’ 60 Minutes, as well as sit-downs with NBC in Philadelphia and CNBC’s Squawk Box.
The Trump team was also said to be trying to arrange for the former president to be interviewed by The Shade Room, an Instagram-based company that has a large young Black audience.
An adviser to the former president is alleged to have told The Shade Room producers that an interview has not been scheduled as Trump was “exhausted and refusing [some] interviews but that could change” reported Politico’s Playbook.
Trump’s national press secretary Karoline Leavit denied the claims as “unequivocally false.”
“President Trump is running laps around Kamala Harris on the campaign trail,” Leavitt said. “And has done media interviews every day this week. He has more energy and a harder work ethic than anyone in politics.”
Newsweek has contacted Trump’s and Harris’s campaign teams for comment via email.
The vice president used claims that Trump was too “exhausted” to conduct interviews to suggest the 78-year-old cannot serve another term in office.
“Being president of the United States is probably one of the hardest jobs in the world,” Harris, who turns 60 on Sunday, said in Michigan. “And so we really do need to ask if he’s exhausted being on the campaign trail, is he fit to do the job?”
In response, Trump told reporters on Friday Harris was “a loser.”
“She doesn’t go to any events,” Trump said. “I’ve gone 48 days now without a rest. And I’ve got that loser, who doesn’t have the energy of a rabbit,” Trump said. “Tell me when you’ve seen me take even a little bit of a rest. I’m not even tired. I’m really exhilarated.”
After the 81-year-old incumbent President Joe Biden ended his reelection campaign, Trump became the oldest presidential candidate in U.S. history.
If Trump wins November’s election, the 78-year-old could overtake Biden as the oldest-ever sitting U.S. president during his second term.
